Before thinking about the beach, it is advisable to separate four things: your passport, the visa if applicable, the E-Ticket form, and the conditions of your stay. None replaces the others. This guide is aimed at tourists arriving on commercial flights and has been reviewed with official sources on October 31, 2026. It is not an entry authorization nor individual migration advice: confirm your case with the consulate, Migration, and the airline before purchasing and again before flying.
1. Before booking: check your nationality and the reason for travel
The rules depend on the passport you are traveling with, your residency status, the reason, and the duration of the trip. They cannot be deduced from the language you speak or the country where you bought the flight. In the official MIREX search engine, linked at the end, select your country or region, passport type, and tourist visa. If the result does not resolve your situation, consult the competent Dominican consulate.
MIREX includes an exemption for people with permanent residence or a valid multiple-entry visa for the United States, Canada, Great Britain, or the Schengen area. Do not interpret that any permit, expired visa, or electronic authorization is sufficient: confirm the specific documents that prove the exemption in your case. If you need a Dominican visa, process it with the consulate before the trip and ask for their current list of documents, fees, and deadlines; there is no guaranteed universal deadline.
This guide does not cover permits to work, study, or reside. Also check the requirements of the countries where you have layovers: being able to enter the Dominican Republic does not mean being able to transit through any airport.
2. Passport: general rule and temporary exception
The official Tourism page indicates a passport with at least six months of validity as a general rule. Check the expiration date for each traveler, including children, and ensure that the booking details match the document.
As of the review date, Tourism publishes an exception for nationals of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador traveling exclusively for tourism: it allows the passport to be valid for the duration of the stay and departure. The published measure ends on December 31, 2026. Do not assume it is extended nor apply it automatically to a trip that crosses that date: verify the rule in effect for your dates with Migration and the airline.
If you have dual nationality, an emergency document, or a special case, request individual confirmation. Validity exceptions do not eliminate other entry requirements or the conditions of a transit country.
3. Prepare return ticket, accommodation, and economic means
Tourism requires foreign tourists to have an entry and return ticket, an address of stay in the Dominican Republic, and proof of solvency to cover their expenses. The airline checks the documents before boarding. Do not buy a one-way ticket assuming that explaining your plans will be enough; consult any unconventional itinerary beforehand.
Keep the return confirmation and the accommodation booking. For an apartment or private residence, ask the host for the full address, including province, municipality, and sector. Carry the information accessible offline. We do not publish a universal minimum economic amount because the source consulted does not set one for all cases.
4. Official E-Ticket: free, mandatory, and different from the visa
Dominican and foreign passengers entering or leaving on commercial flights must complete the E-Ticket. It gathers migration, customs, and health information. The official portal is https://eticket.migracion.gob.do/ and the procedure is free. If a website asks you to pay to fill it out, you are not dealing with an official fee for this form; avoid unnecessary intermediaries and check the domain before entering your passport.
According to Tourism, there is no longer an obligation to wait until the 72 hours prior: you can complete it whenever you have the flight details, even months in advance. It must be ready before reaching the airline counter. Do it with time to spare, not during the check-in line.
The QR authenticates the form, it does not grant a visa nor guarantee admission. Cruises, ferries, boats, and private flights have a different treatment described by Tourism; consult the operator and the authority if you are not arriving on a commercial flight.
5. How to fill it out without errors, step by step
Have your passports, email, airline, flight number, dates, and exact accommodation address on hand. Use the application on the official portal and follow the fields shown; its interface may change.
- •Start the corresponding entry or exit application and save the application code generated by the system.
- •Copy personal data and the passport number exactly as they appear on each passenger's document.
- •Enter the flight, airports, date of the journey, and accommodation. If your city of residence does not appear, Tourism indicates to choose the nearest large city in your state or province.
- •Add family members traveling with you according to the form's options. Tourism allows up to seven people from the same family per form; for more, use another. Include minors even if they do not fill out the Customs section, which is reserved for adults.
- •Answer the migration, health, and customs questions truthfully. Review everything before finishing and generate the QR.
- •Download the PDF or save a legible screenshot of the QR, also offline. Keep the application code to consult or correct data.
- •Check that you have completed both the entry and exit and keep the corresponding confirmations. If a flight or accommodation changes, consult the application and update the data; do not automatically reuse the QR from a previous vacation.
6. If you are traveling with minors
Each minor needs the corresponding travel documentation and their data in the E-Ticket, even if they are traveling with their parents. Check the exit requirements of the country of origin and those of the airline when traveling with one parent, with third parties, or unaccompanied.
Dominican minor exit permits depend on nationality and migration status, among other factors. Not all foreign children on vacation have the same procedure as a Dominican or resident minor. Consult the official Migration service and the consulate for your case; bring the documents of filiation, custody, or authorization that they indicate and do not improvise an authorization on the day of the flight.
7. Health, medications, and customs
There is no single health answer for all itineraries. Official information includes conditions regarding yellow fever for certain origins, such as Venezuela and some states in Brazil. Recent travel, layovers, age, and contraindications may influence this. Check the current information in advance and consult an international vaccination center; do not take this guide as an exhaustive list of mandatory vaccines nor as medical advice.
It is advisable to purchase medical and travel insurance that covers assistance, repatriation, and the planned activities. Here it is presented as a recommendation, not as a universal entry requirement. Check exclusions, deductibles, and how to contact assistance.
Carry personal medication identified along with the corresponding prescription or report; Tourism expressly points out the need for a prescription for medications with psychotropic substances. Before traveling, check Customs restrictions on food, animal or vegetable products, valuables, and cash. Declare what is necessary: the E-Ticket does not authorize restricted goods nor does it eliminate controls.
8. If you want to stay longer than 30 days
Migration publishes an extension service for tourists who wish to stay longer than 30 days, extendable up to 120 days depending on their file. Review the authorized stay in your case and process any extension in advance; do not confuse the duration of a visa with the time of authorized stay upon entry.
The file requires a copy of the passport data, the last entry stamp, return ticket, economic solvency, and a medical certificate. It describes online application, review, approval, and payment of the applicable fee. Consult the updated amounts and conditions directly at Migration. Paying an extension fee should not be interpreted as an automatic authorization to stay, work, or reside.
9. On the day of the flight, upon arrival, and before returning
Carry your passport, visa or exemption documentation if applicable, QR, return ticket, accommodation address, and additional documents required in your case in your hand luggage. Do not leave them only in checked luggage or rely on having an internet connection. The decision on admission belongs to the authorities.
Upon arrival, follow the migration and customs controls before heading to the meeting point for your transfer. Confirm the airport, terminal, flight number, and exact hotel with your carrier. Local time in the Dominican Republic is UTC−4; use the local time shown on your itinerary. If traveling with children, arrange the appropriate car seat beforehand.
Before returning, review the exit E-Ticket, the flight, and the requirements of your next destination. A transport booking with PalmHop does not include or replace visas, permits, official fees, or migration procedures.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay for the E-Ticket?
No. Migration confirms that the official form is free. That does not mean that a visa, an extension, or other official services are free.
Can I fill it out before the 72 hours prior to the flight?
Yes. Tourism indicates that you can do it once you have the flight details. Complete it before the airline counter and update it if the data changes.
Does the E-Ticket replace the visa?
No. They are different procedures. Consult MIREX according to your nationality, document, residence, and reason for travel.
Do I always need six months of passport validity?
It is the published general rule, but there are exceptions. The tourist exception described for certain nationalities ends on December 31, 2026. Verify your case and do not assume it will remain in effect afterward.
What do I do if the portal fails?
Access it again from the official Migration link and keep the code if you already started. If you cannot finish before the flight, contact Migration and your airline. Do not pay an unknown website and do not assume that the issue exempts you from the procedure.
