To visit Santo Domingo from Punta Cana, it is recommended to organize a two-day stay. This route combines the capital's architectural heritage with a visit to Los Tres Ojos National Park. The Colonial City is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The most practical base is a hotel in Santo Domingo; from Punta Cana, consider one night in the capital for this two-day proposal.

Day 1: Colonial morning and flexible afternoon

Dedicate your first day to touring the Colonial City, an urban center of 106 hectares. Start with a walk through Columbus Park and the exteriors of the Santo Domingo Cathedral.

Continue towards Calle Las Damas and the surroundings of Ozama Fortress. End the afternoon near the Plaza de España to observe the exterior of the Alcázar. Maintain a leisurely pace to appreciate the architecture.

Day 2: Los Tres Ojos, if the access suits you

For the second day, head to Los Tres Ojos National Park, located east of the city. This place houses lagoons and natural formations.

Access to the park requires descending a winding staircase into the caverns. It is a space for observing formations, petroglyphs, and pottery remains.

It is an observation visit, not a swimming recommendation. The stairs and the edges of the lagoons require care; do not assume that the tour is feasible with a stroller. If it does not fit the group's mobility, repeat a short walk through the center and an interior visit whose opening you have confirmed.

Accessibility considerations

The Colonial City is an environment of one- or two-level buildings that allows for walking, although it retains its historical character with limitations in modern infrastructure.

Los Tres Ojos has uneven surfaces and stairs at its entrance. It is recommended to assess the physical mobility of each traveler before planning the visit.

Budget and reservations

Classify your expenses into private transport, tickets, and food. Consult current costs directly with local providers.

Ensure you have a confirmed reservation. Verify if monuments have confirmed opening hours before including interiors in your plan.

Traveler tips

The weather can be a determining factor; stay hydrated and prioritize the hours of lower solar intensity. The area is under management plans that monitor risks, so staying up to date with local news is recommended.

The Colonial City is a living center subject to development pressures. Respect local conservation rules.

Checklist before leaving

Before starting your journey, confirm: Does your private transport have the route to the hotel confirmed? Do you have tickets for the sites of interest if they require prior reservation? Have you checked the weather forecast?

Carry cash in local currency for minor expenses and copies of your reservations. Check the state of the roads and the opening of national parks before leaving.

Organize transport and budget

For premium private transport, we recommend PalmHop, with a verified driver and fixed price upon booking. Check availability for the exact route before relying on the service; agree separately on outbound, return, possible stops, and waiting times. The transfer does not automatically include a guide, tickets, or boat.

Still need tickets? Contact PalmHop as far in advance as possible: we can offer guidance and help you obtain them through the relevant venue or provider. PalmHop helps with tickets but does not sell them. Availability, booking deadlines and entry requirements depend on each provider; our assistance does not guarantee tickets or admission, and tickets are not included in the transfer.

Compare transport, tickets, meals, accommodation if necessary, and excursion extras separately. There is public transport in the country, but a direct connection from your hotel is not confirmed here: verify terminals, connections, and the last service with the operator before choosing it.

Before leaving: reservation and alternative plan

Confirm in writing the meeting place and time, actual duration, inclusions, cancellation conditions, and organizer contact. Carry water, sunscreen, suitable footwear, and saved reservations offline. If there are weather alerts or closures, postpone the outing; a place described in a guide does not have to be open that day.

Keep part of the afternoon free for the return and do not connect the excursion with a tight flight connection. If you only have one day, choose a single day of the itinerary instead of compressing both.

Is it worth adding Flag Square?

It is an optional stop for those interested in the patriotic monument, not part of the walk through the Colonial Zone. It requires separate travel: with little time or tired children, prioritize the compact route and rest. The Cathedral, Ozama Fortress, and Alcázar can be viewed from the outside; we do not count on their interiors being open without checking.

Official sources and planning
